How often should I visit the dentist?

To keep your smile healthy, we recommend that you have a professional cleaning and checkup once every 6 months. If you have ongoing dental issues, such as gum disease, we may recommend more frequent visits. During these hygiene visits, we’ll remove decay-causing bacteria and tartar and check for any potential problems that need to be treated. We also recommend that you visit Dr. Sheehan if you experience any pain in your teeth or mouth, swollen or sensitive gums, or bleeding. These symptoms could signal a dental issue that needs to be treated sooner so the symptoms don’t progress into a larger problem.

How do I improve the appearance of my smile?

Dr. Sheehan and her team offer a full range of cosmetic dental services that can improve all aspects of your smile. From teeth whitening to bring a brighter shine and to Invisalign clear aligners to straighten misalignments, to veneers and bonding that can conceal a variety of imperfections. It’s designed to take the place of the missing tooth’s root and the resulting restoration looks, feels, and functions much like a normal tooth. We have implant solutions to replace one, several, or a full arch of teeth. We also offer tooth replacement with dental bridges and full or partial dentures.

Can dentists treat sleep apnea?

Yes! Dentists can provide oral appliances, similar to mouth guards, to help treat mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Many patients choose a custom-fit appliance as an alternative to a CPAP machine because they’re convenient, comfortable, and effective. Keep in mind that not all dentists are qualified to treat sleep apnea. Dr. Sheehan has special training in using oral appliance therapy to treat her patients’ sleep apnea symptoms and she’s qualified by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
